The Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek, within the Annapurna region at an altitude of 3,210 m, is one of the best treks to enjoy a sunrise over snowcapped mountains. The spectacular panoramic breathtaking views from Poon Hill of the Annapurna range and lowland villages will become the most vivid memory of the area.

The trek passes through rhododendron and mixed forest filled with ferns and birds. The trail passes through spectacular villages of the Gurkha soldiers with their Himalayan backdrops and leads to Ghorepani (2,834m).

Trekkers love this trek because in a short time you can enjoy hiking through villages, dense rhododendron forests and past waterfalls. All without having to contend with the altitude and with easily accessible hiking trails.

Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek Itinerary – Example

The following itinerary outlines a possible itinerary for your Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek.

Day 1 – Arrival in Kathmandu (1,300m)

Upon your arrival at Tribhuvan International airport, Kathmandu our company representative will be displaying a hoarding board written as “All Nepal Trekking P. Ltd” outside the airport terminal for receiving you and you will be then transferred to your respective hotel by our private vehicle.

Day 2 – Kathmandu sightseeing

After breakfast, our tour guide will take you to three UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Kathmandu. Pashupatinath Templ is regarded as one of the holiest sites for Hindus all over the world and dedicated to Shiva.

Boudhanath Stupa is located 5 km east of Kathmandu city center, one of the largest stupas in the world and one of the holiest Buddhist pilgrimage which stands three-tiered platform raised over the crossed rectangles.

Swayambhunath Stupa is located in the heart of the city and a little hillock lies about 4 km west of Kathmandu city center. Swayambhunath is also called Monkey Temple by the tourists owing to the large number of monkeys in the temple area.

Day 3 – Drive to Pokhara

After breakfast drive 5/6 hrs. by Prithivi Rajmarg to Pokhara 210 km. Check in hotel & free time, evening our trekking guide will brief for next day, overnight at hotel in Pokhara

Day 4 – Trek to Tikhedhunga (1415m) 3-4 hrs.

After breakfast drive to Nayapul 42 km for about 1½ hr. and trek after half an hour along the bank of the Modi Khola reach to Birethanti (1065m). The trail follows the north bank of the Bhurungdi Khola. From there, the trail climbs steadily up the side of the valley to Hille & after the short climb, reach to Tikhedhunga.

Day 5 – Trek from Tikhedhunga to Ghorepani (2775m) 5-6 hrs.

After Ghorepani trek 4 days we start the 5th day with breakfast, followed by a trail with steep climb to Ulleri about 2 hrs. Ulleri is a large Magar village at 2070m from where you will have a view of Annapurna South and Hiunchuli. Then the trail continues to ascend through fine forests of oak & rhododendron towards Banthanti, Nangethanti (2460m). After one and half hour gradual up reach to Ghorepani at (2775m). Ghorepani means water for horse which was once campsite for trader long time before tourist Ghorepani trek existence.

Day 6 – Trek from Ghorepani to Tadapani (2540m) 5-6 hrs.

Early in the morning hiking to Poonhill (3210m) about 1hr. climb along the steep trail to the viewpoint from where it can be seen superb view of sunrise over the Himalayas and panoramic views of Mountains including Mt. Dhaulagiri (8167m), Mt. Annapurna (8091m), Mt. Manaslu (8163m) Annapurna South (7219m), Fishtail (6993m), and so on. After visiting Poonhill, come back to lodge and have a hot breakfast then trek to Tadapani through the rhododendron forests.

The gorgeous close-up towering views of Annapurna South & Hiunchuli can also be seen from this spot. Tadapani means “far water” and water supply is in a long distance billow the village.

Day 7 – Tadapani to Ghandruk (1940m): 3 hrs.

After breakfast, we start a day the trail with steeply descends through the dense forests and reach on a ridge towards Ghandruk where a large number of Gurung’s inhabitants. Alongside this Ghorepani Ghandruk trekking, we have views of Annaurna South, Hiuchuli and Machhapuchhre (Mt. Fishtail).

Day 8 – Ghandruk to Pokhara: 5 hrs trek and 1hr drive

After breakfast, we start the trek in a long descent to upper Shyauli Bazaar, continue following a path alongside the Modi River and finally reach to Birethanti, it takes then a half-an-hour’s walk to Naya Pul where our trek ends and drive to Pokhara 42 km for about 1½ hr. by private vehicle.

Day 9 – Drive back to Kathmandu
